Kawa is an implementation of a language that vaguely resembles Scheme, written by Per Bothner, based on a compiler to JVM byte code. The latest release, version 1.7, was made on June 1st of 2003. Included with Kawa is JEmacs, an Emacs clone based on Scheme & Java instead of Emacs-Lisp?.

(Kawa is not to be confused with the commercial Java IDE of the same name.)
